A colleague recently shared with us the guide Changer le monde dans les événements sportifs : Mode d’emploi pour des courses écoresponsables. Designed by Équiterre in collaboration with RECYC-QUÉBEC and the Conseil québécois des événements écoresponsables, it’s a reference document for all event agencies! In recent years, there has been a real craze for sporting events. We can testify to this, as we are increasingly called upon to organize charity races and team-building activities . Fillactive celebrations, Challenge IRCM, Courir 6 h En Coeur, etc.: the mandates are multiplying. the mandates are multiplying.

What exactly do we mean by “eco-responsible”?

An activity can be described as “eco-responsible” insofar as it takes into account and respects the integrity of the physical, social and economic environment in both the short and long term. It is therefore essential to think about every detail very early on in the organizational process. That’s why it’s so important to discuss and define a realistic action plan with our customers right from the first planning meetings!

How can I make a positive impact?

There are several options available to minimize the environmental impact of our events. Équiterre has drawn up a list of aspects to consider in our planning:

  • Site selection;
  • Transport and travel;
  • Fixtures and fittings;
  • Sourcing and suppliers;
  • Power supply;
  • Residual materials management;
  • Environmental awareness and education.

Even if certain obstacles remain, there’s really no longer any excuse not to act in an eco-responsible way. The guide even includes a checklist to help us optimize our practices over a three-year period!
